This year Cartier paid much more emphasis on the new classic Santos de Cartier copy watch which has been designed on basis of the first model that especially created for Santos Dumont, the great pilot in 1904. It has already been 40 years since the legendary collection was relaunched in 1978.
Santos Dumont first flew in with balloon in 1897, and in 1907 he made the “La Demoiselle” aircraft, which could be considered as the prototype of a modern aircraft. He was not only a great pilot, but his style, personality and innovative spirit made him a model for contemporary men. Like other outstanding men who change the world, the pioneer of the aviation industry has created endless possibilities with unremitting independence.
In 1900, he met Louis Cartier, who became good friends due to the common pursuit of technological development. In 1901, Albert Sandos Dumont said to Louis Cartier that he was unable to take out his pocket watch to check the time while driving the plane. Three years later, Louis Cartier designed the first modern especially for him, creating a precedent in watchmaking. It was the Santos de Cartier – the legendary fake Cartier timepiece.
